Dallas’ homeless population faces a variety of needs (beyond housing and supportive services). If not met, these needs may prevent them from ending their homelessness quickly and permanently. The idea of the Flex Fund is simple. A minor but impactful expenditure impedes a client from (making progress in) ending his or her homelessness. The Flex Fund pays for it. That’s all there is to it.
If your agency serves those experiencing homelessness, and is enrolled in HMIS and/or CAS, as/if applicable, you may access the Flex Fund. (Domestic Violence Shelters are exempt, per VAWA). If you are eligible, and are not utilizing it, get to it! Click through to access the newly updated Flex Fund Program Guide!
Now, to the exciting news! In general, the Flex Fund is designed to help clients who are currently experiencing homelessness. MDHA is running a retention pilot program, that expands the eligibility of clients in utilizing the Flex Fund, to housed clients who have experienced homelessness, within the last six months.
Retention pilot clients must meet all other Flex Fund requirements, must be receiving case management from an eligible agency, may, generally, access the Flex Fund once in the eligible six month period, and must demonstrate ongoing ability to maintain their housing, once the Flex Fund assistance is received. If you have clients who are eligible, once again, get to it! Check out the full details of the Retention Pilot on p. 4 of the newly updated Flex Fund Program Guide!
